The new concept connecting to Medical Astrology basing on 12 Ascendants connecting with Music Therapy is taken up. As Music is divine which is originated from Sama Veda and many exponents like Thyagaraja, Dikshitar and Shyama Sastry have explored Carnatic Classical Music. This music was popular since long time in North and South as Hindustani/ Carnatic Music. In Carnatic Music basing on Swaras we have got 72 Melakarthas/ Ragas were prevailing. In these 72 Melakartha Ragas we can see 12 Divisions multiplied by 6 Swarms total put together 72 Ragas were generated. Wherein 12 Divisions have connection with 12 Zodiac signs and the swarms 6. Now coming to the Sapta swarms of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha (Suddha) Ni (Kaisika) plus 5 additional second swaras of Re (Chatusruthi) Ga (Antara) Ma (Prati) Dha (Chatusruthi) Ni (Kakali) are added which comes to total 12 signs. Wherein Sun and Moon have got each one swara and one sign in the zodiac and other 5 planets Budha, Sukra, Kuja, Guru & Sani have got two Swarms each has created the total swarms which forms part of different Ragas in the Classical Music. Hence as per Vedic texts there is a nexus between the Music and Zodiacal signs as depicted hereunder. Thus we can correlate music to astrology. MUSIC AND ASTROLOGY As we know there are 7 Suddha and 5 vikut swarm total 12 and signs in zodiac are also 12. The sun rules Leo and moon Cancer, only one sign allotted to them, remaining 10 signs distributed to five planets. Gemini and Virgo to Mercury, Taurus and Libra to Venus, Aries and Scorpio to Mars, Sagittarius and Pisces to Jupiter, Capricorn and Aquarius to Saturn, Sa and Pa are always Suddha. In Medical Astrology Music Therapy basing on Hindustani and Carnatic Classical Music would invoke the immunity system that it is hidden in the body given by nature. Many classical ragas would give good moods and health. This concept was not much tested by many Astrologers. This was in budding stage since 2008 but now it was taken up. In this year let us take the Science forward by linking our ancient Sama Veda Music to Medical Astrology and thereby to get immunity and good health to the humanity. Now I request all the readers of this Ezine should come with their ideas on this concept to develop it into a more validating concept.

In Medical Astrology 5th Cusp of Natal Chart represents Heart, Lungs, Chest and Blood. The stars that are existing in this sign are Makha, Pubba and Uttara 1 pada represents Heart, Lungs, Chest and Blood. Upper Abdomen, Mind, Liver, Gall Bladder, Spleen, Intestines & Mesentery, Heart, Spinal Column, Nervous, fibre, Bones of the Back. Heart, Back, Spinal Cord, Spleen, Dorsal Region of Spine, Aorta. Even the old testament mentions music therapy where King David is said to have cured an illness by playing on the harp. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, used music to cure human diseases. In ancient Egypt music was used to lessen the pain of women during childbirth. Sina, a famous Arabic writer, has written in detail on this subject. In India legend has it that Thyagaraja, the famous musician of South India, brought a dead person back to life by singing the composition Naa Jeevan Dhara in raga Bihari. In 1729 Richard Browne, a physician wrote the famous text Medicina Musica which describes the use of music as medicine.

Dr. Burnell has mentioned a manuscript named Raga Chikistsa in the collections of Saraswati Mahal Library in Tanjore which deals with the various ragas that can be used for curing various ailments. What is music ? "Music is a kind of inarticulate, unfathomable speech which leads us to the edge of the infinite and lets us for a moment gaze in that" observed Carlyle. Music is basically a sound or nada generating particular vibrations which moves through the medium of ether present in the atmosphere and effects the human body. Sarangdev mentions in his Sangeet Ratnakar that ahata nada or music is always produced by striking or aghata by a living being on an instrument of any kind So music is a power or universal energy in the form of ragas. Matanga (9-10th centurey AD) was the earliest writer to define raga. According to him "raga is that kind of sound composition consisting of melodic movements which has the effect of colouring the hearts of men." "There are four sources of raga : folk songs, poetry, devotional songs of mystics and compositions of classical musicians. While harmony is the characteristic of Western music, Indian music is pure melody. The general term for melody in india is raga or ragini." Symphonies of raga have a definite soothing effect on the mind as well as on the body. Repeated listening to the particular raga being chosen for a particular disease produces a network of sound vibration. The muscles, nerves and the chakras of the affected part are contracted when one impulse is given and relaxed during the interval between two impulses.

Thus, during contraction of the tissue, musical notes make the blood flow out from that particular area and in the interval there is relaxation and a state of reduced pressure is produced in these areas. Thus the blood from the adjacent area will flow there. This process is repeated again and again and the blood flow and energy flow in that part is enhanced. This makes quick, fast healing. Energy from URF (unlvarsal energy field) to HEF (human energy field) transmitted by the strokes of the different tones of raga affects the CNS (Central nervous system) because the roots of the auditory nerves are more widely distributed and have more connections than any other nerves in the body. Music beats have a very close relationship with heart beats. Music having 70-75 beats per minute equivalent to the normal heart beat of 72 has a very soothing effect. Likewise rhythms which are slower than 72 beats per minute create a positive suspense on the mind and body since the mind body complex anticipates that the music will speed up and this restored vital energy gives a deep relaxation to the body. Rhythms which are faster than the heart rate excite and rejuvenate the body. Hindustani/Classical musical considers ragas as depicting specific moods. An appropriate mood is to be evoked in the listener's mind before initiating the musical treatment. Kafi Raga evokes a humid, cool, soothing and deep mood while Raga Pooriya Dhansari evokes sweet, deep, heavy, cloudy and stable state of mind. Raga Mishra Mand has a very pleasing refreshing light and sweet touch while Bagashwri arouses a feeling of darkness, stability, depths and calmness. Music is considered the best tranquilliser in modern days of anxiety, tension and high blood pressure. Raga Darbari is considered very effective in easing tension. it is a late night raga composed by Tansen for Akbar to relieve his tension after hectic schedule of the daily court life. This raga belongs to Asavari That and is a complete raga containing all the seven notes. The seven notes are taken from various natural sounds of birds and animals. Raga Bhupali and Todi give tremendous relief to patients of high blood pressure. Raga Ahir-Bhairav is supposed to sustain chords which automatically brings down blood pressure. Raga Malkauns and Raga Asawari helps to cure low blood pressure, For heart aliments Raga Chandrakauns is considered very helpful. Raga Tilak-Kamod, Hansdhwani, Kalvati, Durga evoke a very pleasing effect on the nerves. For patients suffering from insomnia and need a peaceful sonorous sleep, Raga Bihag and Bahar have wonderful effects. Ragas are closely related to different parts of the day according to changes in nature and development of a particular emotion, mood or sentiment in the human mind. Music therapy treatment is conducted either early morning, evening or night. One should avoid long music sessions on an empty stomach. Music sessions should be of one hour duration with two or three short sessions with breaks. As indicated in previous articles 72 Melakarthas (English) picture 40 Ragas are connected to Vivadhi nature hence those Ragas are not taken up seriously by many Musicians. Only 32 Ragas were very conducive for exploration by many. These are known as Janaka (Father) Ragas and out of them good Ragas have got Janya (children) Ragas with some modifications or not to the original raga and they are also very well popular and giving good results for the society. KAS for Timing of events JUGAL KALANI “KRUSHANA” Knowing the timing of events in the life of any person is a very important factor. It is said that pre finding the timing of any event is very difficult or impossible. Here I am giving a very reliable and simple system for finding the probable period for some important events of life. Each house of the chart denotes some very specific events of life. This way all the twelve houses indicate different events of the life. It is generally known to all students of astrology about events indicated by each house, and it is given in all text books. So I avoid giving such things.

Suppose we want to find the probable time of any event denoted by any house of the chart. For our convenience we will denote such house under consideration by letter “B”. Eighth house from house B should be indicated by letter “A”. Fifth house from house B we indicate by letter “C”. Same way Sixth house from house B by letter “E”, and tenth house from house B by letter “D”. One more house plays an important role, and that house is third house from house B, and we will denote this house as house “F”. This way, these six houses play important role in the timing event of any house B. We will discuss about these houses. House B. We will discuss about these houses. House A is eighth house from house under consideration or focus house. Actually this is Karak house for the house B. To understand this concept more clearly we will take some examples. We will take natural chart (Kalpurush chart) as a reference. Natural chart is the chart having Aries as Lagna, and other houses have sign in sequence. Now for seventh house which is house of kalatra and eighth house from this house has Taurus and lord of Taurus is Venus. Hence Venus as a lord of Taurus is kalatra karak or stri Karak. 29

Fifth house of the chart indicates Children. Eighth house from this house has Pisces sign and lord of Pisces is Jupiter. We know that Jupiter is known as karak for child birth. Same way second house of the chart indicates wealth and Eighth house from 2nd house is having Sagittarius sign and lord of Sagittarius is Jupiter. We know that Jupiter is karak of Dhan. Same way Karak for tenth house is Sun lord of Leo which is 8th house from 10th house. Karak for 12th house matters is Venus which is lord of Libra and Libra is eighth sign from Pisces. Karak for 11th house (Income) is Mercury lord of Virgo. From the examples shown here we can know the Karak planet for each house. In Vedic astrology some Karak planets have been added but no reason for the same is known. For our purpose we will consider eighth house from any house as Karak. For other charts means charts having other than Aries Sign in Lagna Eighth house lord is known as Functional Karak. This way 2nd house lord becomes Functional karak for 7th house and can be called as Functional Kalatra karak (Tatkalik karak). House F : Now we will discuss about other houses mentioned above. We have denoted the third house from house B by letter F. If we see we will find that House F is eighth house from house A. This means house F is karak house for house A. Hence house F becomes Root karak or Mul karak for house B. Houses A and F play very important role in the result of house B. Quality and quantum of the result of B house depends upon the situation of karak and root karak lords and planets situated in house A and F. Varg charts: There are sixteen Divisional charts discussed in Vedic text. Each divisional chart has very specific use and it is referred for particular house. For example for marriage or 7th house result Navmansha chart is referred. The navmansha chart has nine divisions. If we study in deep we will find that house F for seventh house is also ninth house of the chart. Similarly if we are studying fifth house which indicates child birth. Root karak house for fifth house is seventh house. We refer Saptamansha chart which is having seven divisions. The wealth is seen from second house, and root karak house for 2nd house is fourth house, and we refer chathurtansha (D4) chart for wealth. Same way D16 and D 40 charts are also related to fourth house in second and fourth round. D 6 means 12 + 4, and D 40 means 12X3 + 4. We refer D16 chart for Vehicle of the native. Generally any native purchases own vehicle when he is well established or well settled. Hence this is second round; Second round generally starts when native starts earning. D40 indicates intangible wealth such as Good will, Patents etc. Hence this is in fourth round. D4 chart indicates about overall wealth of the native for life time. Same way for other houses Varg charts referred must be having same divisions as per the house number of F house of concerned house. Other Divisional charts referred for a house may be the divisional chart having divisions equal to house number of F house plus NX12. Here N indicates completed rounds. For Example D 30

40 chart is 4 + 3X 12 = 40 where F house is fourth house and in fourth round means after completion of 3 rounds so N = 3. Ansha lords (Karakansha): Ansha lord of Karak and root karak planets is known as Karakansha. Karakansha planet of Root karak is known as Root karakansha. Same way Natural karakansha and functional karakansha are distinguished by word “Natural” or “functional” karakansha. The situation of Functional karakansha and Functional root karakansha in natal chart and respective Varg chart is very important for finding the quality and quantum of the result. House C: House C is a supportive house for house B. It is a fifth house from house B (house under consideration) B and C houses are 5:9 from each other. These houses are having nakshtras ruled by same planets. House C is 10th house from house A. This way house B and C are the Upachay houses of house A. Upachay house from any house are 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses. Upachay means Growth or prosperity. This means these houses boost up the karkatva of house A. Result of any house as house B is cumulative effect of all A+B+C houses. These houses are main Upachay houses from house A. House D and E: House D and E are 10th and 6th houses respectively from house B; hence these are the Upachay houses from house B. These houses are also Upachay from house A, as these are 3rd and 11th houses from house A. Lords of these houses D and E are eager to give the result of house B as per the karkatva of house A in their Bhukti. Same way strong planets situated in these houses are also keen to give the result of the event of house B. Ashtakvarg: Generally strength of the planet is judged from the sign it is situated. But most accurate system for ascertaining the power of any planet is by ashtakvarg. Points in sarvashtakvarg for a planet in the house it is situated is a number, which shows from how many planets and Lagna it is in favorable situation. For example if any planet gets 5 points in sarvashtakvarg, this means it is situated in favorable position from 5 planets including lagna. This also means it gets favorable or positive support from 5 planets. Ashtakvarg is a system for finding the favorable points of any planet from seven planets and Lagna. Cumulative effect of all planets is known as Sarvashtakvarg. Now-a-days all computer programs give Sarvashtakvarg table. We are not going in more details about ashtakvarg. Some important laws: 1) A very important rule is about the sight of planets on house B. Any planet having its sight on house B cannot give the result in its Bhukti, unless it is either lord of house D or E. 31

2) In natal chart If either functional Karakansha lord or functional Root karakansha lord are having their sight on house B or on the lord of house B, then happiness of the event will be delayed, decreased or denied. If both karakansha have sight meaning more negativity for the result. 3) If such karakansha lords are situated in Root karak house of the natal chart still happiness of the event will be hampered. 4) If the functional karakansha or root karakansha lords are situated in the sixth house of the natal or Varg chart happiness of the result will be reduced by delay decreased or denial. 5) If these karakansha lords are situated with sixth lord in natal or Varg chart still result can be damaged. 6) If any of the karakansha lords are situated in house B, will give the result very early or even before time. If Both Functional karakansha and root karakansha is same planet and situated in house B will give result very early. If both The karakanshas are situated in house B will give result early. Marriage is a very important event of the life. For marriage we consider seventh house as house B. Hence second house becomes house A (functional karak) 11th house of the chart becomes as house C, which subordinate house of house B. Ninth house is house of Functional Root karak or house F, (hence we refer navmansha chart for marital happiness). Fourth House becomes house D and 12th house will be treated as house E. As per this research Marriages are generally performed in the Bhukti of fourth or twelfth lord of the chart or planets situated in these houses. When two planets are situated in same navmansha they are said to be samdharmi to each other and also samdharmi to navmansha lord. Samdharmi planets are planets which can replace it other on first come first served basis. Saturn and Venus are natural Samdharmi. Hence if any of these planets are lord of house D or E and Bhukti of other planets comes first it can give result in its Bhukti. Same way Sun and Mars, Moon and mars are also natural samdharmi. Here with we are not discussing anything about delay. Readers are requested to check actual events and tally in which Bhukti event has taken place. I feel that more than 65% of the events will take place in the Bhukti of lords of D or E and planets situated in these houses or their Samdharmies. Maha dasha can be of house A lord or D or E lord or samdharmi to these planets. Death Due to any reason is represented by 8th house only. D house for 8th house is fifth house hence lord of 5th house and or planets Situated in Fifth house or their samdharmi are eager to give the result. Same way E house is Lagna house; hence lagna lord and planets situated in Lagna or their samdharmi can give the result. Result of 8th house such as Death happens in the Bhukti of these planets. For 8th house Varg chart to be referred are navmansha and Dashansha varg charts. The Ansha lords in these Divisional charts are known as Samdharmi. Same way when two planets are situated in same Ansha they are treated as samdharmi to each other. 32

Venus lord of lagna is in the navmansha of Sun, hence Sun’s Bhukti can give the result, and Jupiter is lord of house A so its maha dasha is justified.
